Gospel in Action

#GospelInAction ... What makes The Living Word different than Moby Dick, and Edgar Allan Poe's Poems? Or Grimm's Fairy Tales and Emily Dickinson? What makes it become a Rhema word?

The truth , applied , in action , in our lives.  This generation needs to SEE the gospel in action.

They hear too much talk...

Boyfriends who promise they'll be by their sides and leave with the next hot skirt.

Drugs promising a cure all , but really , offering a  temporary fix.

The one who only feels loved after she's given all she has to a guy she doesn't know.

The rockstar who performs night after night, surrounded by adoring fans but still feels empty after every show...

They're searching for something. Something different. Something true. Something living. Something vibrant. Something refreshing.

Someone who isn't gonna leave them for the next best thing. Something that isn't a quick fix. Someone to truly love them - not just use them. Something to bring rest and restoration.

That my friend would be the glorious Gospel. But ...

If we go around spouting off verses or Christianese - these people would be turned off.

How many times has she heard God loves you- but went to bed cold , hungry and with no hope that there's marvelous plans for tomorrow ?

Sometimes it takes a sandwich to get attention. The gospel put in action. Hands and  feet proving what the mouth is saying- being different than the guy who promised to stay but left last month.

People don't care how much you know. Until they know how much you care.

Jesus spent 30 years in his community being a carpenter before starting his ministry. He built trust and relationships with these people , before revealing himself.  He didn't just start spouting his views to them. He modeled the good news before he told the good news!

So , how is The Living Word different than any other book? The ability for the Word to become flesh and dwell amongst the chaos  of the world.  And change the minds and hearts and therefore actions of that world. It get implanted into us and bears the fruits of peace joy & love.

The Bible is just another book unless its applied and put into action in our lives.
